Oktoberfest!

We went to the St. Charles Oktoberfest Friday night.  The boys got their face painted, got a balloon animal and even played with some friends from school.  It was a fun night out.

Hiking-Pickle Springs

After we left Hawn Park we drove about 10 minutes to Pickle Springs Conservation Area.  This is a 2 mile loop with lots and lots to see!  We figured we came all this way, we were definitely hiking another 2 miles, making a grand total of 10 miles for the day!  We were all exhausted by the end, but it was worth it.  It was beautiful and there was something to explore at every corner.  Pickle Springs used to be a shallow sea and Mammoth's even roamed the area millions of years ago.  The boys loves learning about the history of the parks while exploring them!

Hiking-Hawn Park

Our prop on our boat was bent and was not going to be fixed in time for the weekend, so we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and plan a day trip for hiking.  Our research brought us to Ste. Genevieve, MO where we hiked at Hawk State Park and Pickle Springs.  I had to make two posts to fit everything in!  Our first stop was Hawn Park.  We started off hiking up Pickle Creek trail which was gorgeous.  We stopped constantly to check out new parts of the stream.  And of course every time we stopped Cabo splashed in the water like he'd never swam before!  We finally let the kids wade in the water for a bit at one stop before heading into the woods to hike some more.  The pine trees were so tall and beautiful and this part of the trail was very serene.  We had lunch on some boulders before heading back down to the creek for the kids to splash in for a while before going to Pickle Springs.
