Saturday morning started off with a hike at Lakeside
Wilderness Hiking Trail. Surprisingly
the boys were excited. Max had to carry
the “hiking pack” (aka my camera bag) and they each had to find a walking
stick. We walked for a while then came
to a set of stairs that said 169 down and 169 up. This was after already doing well over 100 stairs. We were nervous about it because when the
boys are done, they are done and we didn't want them to have meltdowns and have
to climb over 300 stairs on the way back.
But we decided to move forward anyway and we were so glad we did. It was absolutely beautiful and the weather
was awesome! We saw a really big canyon
that if it had rained would have had a waterfall and we saw a couple of caves,
one which I could stand up in. When we
were heading back the kids were playing a game where they were acting like we
were strangers so we couldn't walk the path with them. This was an AWESOME thing because they were
still in our sight in front of us, but it made them get up those stairs in
records time, with NO complaints because they had to hurry so “the strangers
don’t catch up”! The hike was my favorite
part of the whole trip!
